JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Gov. Jay Nixon has named a former Democratic state lawmaker to a commission that resolves disputes over decisions by state agencies.
Philip Smith is a 63-year-old lawyer from the northeastern Missouri town of Louisiana. His appointment to the Administrative Hearing Commission will need Senate confirmation when the Legislature convenes in January.
Smith spent 12 years in the Missouri House and was first elected in 1990.
The appointment was announced Tuesday.
