KEOKUK, Ia. (WGEM) -- Mike Davis didn't have to watch much tape from last season to figure out just exactly what was needed, as far as improvement goes, for the Keokuk girls basketball team.

The Lady Chiefs head coach says the focus this offseason was on the perimeter.

Davis knows what he has in top junior wing Shelsey Stanley and sophomore post Mackenzie Piper, but what he doesn't know is how effective his team's shooting will be.

He simply hopes it's better than a year ago.

"We were, I thought, one of the poorest shooting teams around as far as shooting the three-point ball, but this summer that's something we concentrated on, to spread people out more," he said.

"I think it's going to be pretty exciting and again we'll play up-tempo and we're working really hard defensively right now."

Keokuk opens the season this weekend at the Quincy High Tournament before their home opener next Tuesday against Burlington.
