DECATUR, Ill. (AP) - A 33-year-old Decatur resident has pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated battery to a senior citizen in an Aug. 26 attack on his 70-year-old mother in her home.
Rickey Dewayne Cox entered his plea Wednesday before Circuit Judge Lisa Holder White under an agreement worked out between his attorney and prosecutors.
White accepted the plea and sentenced Cox to four years in prison to be followed by one year on parole.
The victim, Mary Lou Cox, was admitted to St. Mary's Hospital and hospital personnel contacted police about suspected abuse after she told a nurse she had fallen but would not initially say how it had happened.
Police who questioned the woman said they eventually learned her son had beaten her.
