ADDISON, Ill. (AP) - Authorities say autopsies have confirmed that four members of an Addison family found dead in their home in the western Chicago suburb were the victims of a murder-suicide.
DuPage County Coroner Peter Siekmann's office reports that autopsies performed Thursday show that 48-year-old Thomas Mangiantini (mon-gee-ahn-TEE'-nee) Sr. shot himself in the mouth after killing his wife and two sons.
The autopsies determined that 46-year-old Elizabeth Mangiantini died of a single gunshot to the head, as did her 8-year-old son, Thomas Jr. The couple's 12-year-old son, Angelo, died after being shot multiple times in the head.
Police said they could hear gunshots as Elizabeth Mangiantini, made a frantic 911 call around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday. Police arriving minutes later at the locked Addison home found the woman downstairs and her husband and two sons upstairs.
