SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - An 8-acre mixed-used development project planned for the University of Utah has fallen victim to the shaky U.S. economy.
The university's project partner, Inland American Communities Group, backed out of the deal this week, citing unfavorable economic conditions. Inland American is a subsidiary of Inland American Real Estate Trust of Oak Brook, Ill.
The school and Inland American planned to turn a parking lot next to the Rice-Eccles football stadium into a commercial center with offices, apartments, retail stores, a grocery and a movie theater.
