Collapsed building clean-up will cost Keokuk over $50,000

KEOKUK, Iowa (WGEM) -- The pile of rubble still sitting in downtown Keokuk will cost the city over $50,000 to clean up. But the good news is that figure is a lot less than original estimates.

According to the Daily Gate City, Keokuk city officials have opened up four bids on cleaning up the collapsed building at 528 Main Street; the cheapest being around $52,000.

Original estimates had been as high as half million dollars to remove the 400 tons of rubble after the former Green Tambourine building collapsed on July 31.

Clean-up costs were left to the city as the property's out-of-state owner could not afford it.
