Coroner: Fire fatality likely home's occupant

Associated Press - December 13, 2009 12:14 PM ET

EAST PEORIA, Ill. (AP) - A coroner says he's awaiting DNA results he hopes confirms that a woman found dead after an East Peoria house fire is the home's 45-year-old occupant.

Tazewell County Coroner Dennis Conover says an autopsy Saturday on the badly burned victim showed enough identification points to lead him to believe the woman lived at the house. He says DNA results to formally confirm that won't be available for another week.

The body was found in the living room in the burning home Friday.

Conover has released the body to the family to which they believe it belongs.

Deputy Fire Chief Randy Hurd says local and state fire investigators are trying to pinpoint what caused the fire.
