JEWETT, Ill. (AP) - A police squad car in eastern Illinois is out of commission after it was parked too close to train tracks and clipped by a train earlier this month.
An officer with the Cumberland County Sheriff's Department parked a squad car too close to a railroad crossing near Jewett while he was out on duty after midnight on Dec. 5. A CSX freight training pulling 80 cars hit the car around 12:25 a.m.
No one was injured, but the car was seriously damaged on the front end.
That's according to a report filed this week with Illinois State Police.
State Police Master Sergeant Chad Smith says the car was parked inches too close to the tracks.
