CHICAGO (AP) - A spokeswoman for Metra says the Chicago suburban rail service has suspended two longtime crew members because of a weekend incident in which a 4-year-old boy's foot got caught in a train door as the train started to leave the station.
The boy, D.J. Newton of Worth, was not injured Saturday, but his mother says he has now become terrified of riding the train. The mother, Eileen Kermer, says she managed to pull her son free of the door, but he lost his boot.
Metra spokeswoman Judy Pardonnet said Monday the two crew members have been suspended without pay pending a disciplinary hearing since they apparently didn't follow the rules.
Metra procedures require crew members to make sure doorways are clear of passengers before closing the doors.
