WGEM.com: Quincy News, Weather, Sports, and RadioCape Air seeing holiday travel success

QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM)--Historically it's been rare to see a full lot of cars at Quincy regional airport, but with the holiday season upon us, both airline officials and passengers say things here are taking off.
The chance to surprise his grand kids for Christmas was an opportunity Cola Davis couldn't pass up and he credits the current air service to Quincy for making it possible.
"It's always been like what's going to happen? Am I going to have to drive, catch the shuttle, or is the plane going to fly? So this time it worked out great," said Cola Davis.
And other Cape Air travelers feel the same way.
"My son lives down in Belleville and I would normally drive down there to get on the connection to the St.Louis airport, but for $49 dollars you can't beat it," said Dick Donald.
Airport manager Marty Stegeman says Cape Air's holiday business has been strong with almost 350 outbound passengers so far in December. A figure that speaks strongly of the airline's early success.
"We're looking at 550 passengers in about six weeks. Great lakes carried 970 in the first ten months of the year," said Marty Stegeman.
And with a few more days to get where you're going for Christmas one Tri-State solider is thankful to have landed at home right in time to spend the holidays with his family.
"I'm just glad I get to see my son and my family, it's just a great feeling."
