Imprisoned former teacher won't face more charges

BELLEVILLE, Ill. (AP) - A former St. Clair County teacher and pro wrestler who is serving a 20-year prison sentence for trying to kill a teenager in 2006 won't face additional time for assaulting police and paramedics who aided him after a suicide attempt.

St. Clair County Circuit Court Judge John Baricevic dismissed aggravated assault charges Monday against Samson Shelton.

Shelton's lawyer, Kelli Politte, called it great news for the former Freeburg driver's education teacher.

Shelton earlier beat charges that he kicked a nurse's aide in the head and spit on a sheriff's deputy after his suicide attempt.

Samson alllegedly took tranquilizers, sleeping pills and Jagermeister after being accused of assaulting, then strangling 17-year-old Ashley Reeves and leaving her for dead in a park. He pleaded guilty to attempted murder and received a 20-year prison sentence.
