QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) -- Those who came to the Quincy Mall today got to see the inside of an ambulance, but there was no emergency. EMS services, the Sheriff's Department and the Red Cross held an event to meet with the public to kick off National EMS Week.
Passersby toured the ambulance parked inside the mall, had their blood pressure checked, and met a K-9 unit, in addition to meeting the personnel from the departments.
The goal of the event was to help the public understand the emergency response equipment and capabilities before they are in an actual emergency.
"For children especially, being a little familiar with what we have and procedures that we do makes them comfortable. If they're actually involved in an emergency, they might not be as nervous as they would be if we were complete strangers," said Tony Slater of Adams County Ambulance Services.
National EMS Week runs from May 15-21.
