WASHINGTON, Iowa (AP) - Authorities in eastern Iowa say one person is dead and several others injured after a collision between a car and pickup. The crash happened yesterday afternoon on G38 near Washington. The Iowa State Patrol says 46-year-old Dennis Albright, a passenger in the car, was killed in the wreck. Seven other people were hospitalized, including three children.

WAVERLY, Iowa (AP) - A northeast Iowa nursing home lauded by the governor's office as among the best in the state was cited seven weeks earlier for unsanitary conditions in its kitchen. The Des Moines Register reports the Woodland Terrace facility in Waverly was cited but not fined in May for various problems. The governor's office said this month that Woodland Terrace was one of three facilities to receive the 2014 Governor's Award for Quality Care in Health Care Facilities.

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - Iowa City police say they've arrested a juvenile who was shooting a weapon into the air and are searching for another. Authorities say several shots were fired yesterday at the pedestrian mall downtown. No injuries were reported. Police say they caught the juvenile two blocks away from the mall with a loaded pistol.

ANKENY, Iowa (AP) - Ankeny expects to profit from paying about $865,000 for a special census. The special count is expected to show Ankeny has grown to at least 53,000 residents, well beyond its official 2010 count of nearly 45,600. City Manager David Jones says the higher population can translate to an extra $3 million to $4 million a year in road use tax revenue.
