PITTSBURGH (AP) - The Chicago Cubs have lost 4 of 5 heading into a matinee at Pittsburgh. Edwin Jackson pitches for the Cubs today against Jeanmar (JAHN'-mar) Gomez of the Pirates. The Cubs are just 4 for 25 with runners in scoring position during their current 3-game skid.

SAN DIEGO (AP) - St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Jaime (HY'-may) Garcia will have shoulder surgery tomorrow in St. Louis and probably won't pitch again this season. Garcia had a sore shoulder twice last year but chose rest over surgery in the off-season. The left-hander was 5-2 with a 3.58 earned run average in nine starts this season.

DETROIT (AP) - The Chicago Blackhawks are sticking with Corey Crawford in goal tonight as they try to even their playoff series with Detroit. The Red Wings have a 2-1 edge heading into Game 4. Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville (KWEHN'-vihl) is 0-5 as a head coach against the Red Wings in postseason series.

ST. LOUIS (AP) - A standing-room crowd of about 46,000 is expected for tonight's Chelsea-Manchester City soccer match in St. Louis. The Busch Stadium soccer layout is just shy of FIFA (FEE'-fuh) dimensions but Chelsea's groundskeeper has given his OK. Sod covers the pitcher's mound and the infield dirt.
