WASHINGTON, D.C. (AP) - U.S. Sen. Tom Harkin says the Federal Emergency Management Agency has changed course and will now grant Cedar Rapids' request for $379,127 to temporarily relocate the city's public library.
The Iowa Democrat announced the award of the grant Wednesday.
The city had twice appealed FEMA's denial of the assistance after the 2008 storms damaged the main library and the city had to find a temporary location until a new building could be constructed.
Harkin said the aid will help Cedar Rapids maintain a public meeting and educational facility that is essential to its residents.
