DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - The Iowa Department of Human Services says another child has been delivered to a hospital under the state's safe haven law.
Human Services Department officials said Monday the newborn boy was brought to an Iowa hospital on Dec. 21 shortly after a home delivery. The mother said she did not want the child.
It is the 14th time the state's "safe haven" law has been used since it went into effect in 2001. The law allows unwanted newborns to be left at any Iowa health facility with no questions asked.
Officials say the latest safe haven child is healthy and was released to the custody of the DHS. The child was placed with a foster family that intends to adopt.
A court hearing will be held within weeks to terminate parental rights.
