MISSION #40: GRHF returns from final flight of 2016

The final mission of 2016 for the Great River Honor Flight program includes veterans from Korea and Vietnam and equally important, this group is made up of veterans exclusively from Hancock County, Illinois. The veterans come from Warsaw, Hamilton, Carthage, Niota, Bowen, Nauvoo and Woodstock.

Chili cook-off leads to generous donation to Great River Honor Flight

The Great River Honor Flight got another big boost thanks to a chili cook-off in America's Hometown.  The 33rd Annual Chili Cook-Off at Admiral Coontz Armory took place back in February.

Hundreds donated to Great River Honor Flight

A night of baseball helped raise hundreds of dollars for the Great River Honor Flight. Members of the Ursa Farmers Coop in Canton, Missouri donated $651 Thursday to the cause.  The money was raised in June at a Quincy Gems baseball game when the group held a 50/50 raffle.

Tri-States girl collects Honor Flight donations in lieu of birthday presents

A local girl just celebrated her birthday, but she didn't get any presents. Instead, Olivia Plant asked her friends to give money to the Great River Honor Flight. Olivia collected $111 to help send our local veterans to Washington D.C. to see memorials in their honor.  Olivia sent a simple note of thanks to the vets along with her donation.

4-H Club donates to Great River Honor Flight

Another generous donation was made to the Great River Honor Flight Monday.  Members of the Ursa Willing Workers 4-H club donated $500 to the program.  The idea came from two members whose grandfather told them about his experience on the April 21st flight.

What started out as a small fundraiser for the Great River Honor Flight turned into a major event. American Legion Post #912 from Plymouth, Illinois put together a tractor run, catfish fry, motor run and an auction on items donated by local businesses. The organization raised an amazing $7,500,

A 5K run/walk went the distance for Great River Honor Flight. Staff at The Illinois Department of Corrections' Western Illinois Correctional Center in Mt. Sterling sponsored a 5K Run/Walk in Siloam Springs State Park last month.

The Great River Honor Flight's 36th mission was in our nation's capitol Thursday, arriving back in the Tri-States just before 11:30 p.m. to a crowd at Hannibal-LaGrange University. Thirty-one veterans from the Tri-States were on the memorable trip.

 A local event is giving back in a big way for the fourth year. The Mendon Lions held its Hunter's Classic.  The club presented donations to Fishing for Freedom, Adams County First Responders and the Great River Honor Flight.  Each organization received $4,000.

A group from MacDill Air Force Base teamed up to run a race in Tampa, Florida, as part of a Tri-States 5k to raise money for Great River Honor Flight. A group from MacDill Air Force Base teamed up to run a race in Tampa, Florida, as part of a Tri-States 5k to raise money for Great River Honor Flight.

A group of enlisted military members and veterans from MacDill Air Force Base, in Tampa, Florida, raised money to send Tri-States vets on the Great River Honor Flight. The group couldn't make it to a 5k at Siloam Springs Park, in Mt. Sterling, Illinois, so they took part in their own 5k in Florida.
