Mendon Elementary raises money on "Twins Day"

MENDON, Ill. (WGEM) -- Students at Mendon Elementary School are doing what they can to help the community. All this week, they're raising money for the March for Heroes campaign to support the Adams County Red Cross.

Wednesday was "Twins Day", where kids got to wear the same clothes to school.

Principal Teri Fessler says her schools have done fundraising campaigns like this in the past, and they've always been successful.

"We try to do a service project every month, and the American Red Cross, our local chapter, has this heroes campaign they like for schools to be involved in, so we said yes. This is our second year participating."

Even the teachers had a little fun with the theme. Two of them wore matching rainbow knee socks.

Thursday's theme is flip-flops and shorts.

If you want to help support the March for Heroes and the Red Cross, anyone who donates blood Thursday (March 19) during a blood drive in Camp Point will have a portion of their purchase businesses donated.

That blood drive runs from 2pm-6pm at St. Thomas Church hall.
