ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - The Iowa Cubs fall to 58-47 with a loss at Albuquerque in the Pacific Coast League. The Isotopes beat the Cubs 8-4 yesterday.

HOUSTON (AP) - The Chicago Cubs are idle today after dropping 2 of 3 at Houston. The Astros won 8-1 behind two homers by Carlos Lee. Chicago starter Randy Wells allowed five hits and three runs in just under six innings.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - The Des Moines Buccaneers of the United States Hockey League are getting a new head coach who will also be general manager. Regg Simon is leaving a job as assistant hockey coach at the University of Alaska Anchorage. He previously coached the Buccaneers for parts of 5 seasons from 2003 to 2008.

IRVING, Texas (AP) - Kansas football coach Turner Gill says he used to talk to former Iowa quarterback Chuck Long about the pair being on the same staff, even when Gill was coaching at Buffalo and Long was at San Diego State. Long was fired in 2008 and was out of coaching when Gill called about joining him at Kansas as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.
