QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) -- Former Illinois Attorney General Jim Ryan is once again running for governor, and he says that reform in Springfield would begin an economic trickle down to you.
With the state billions of dollars in debt and the unemployment rate rising to 10%, Ryan says the budget and the economy go hand in hand. In an interview for WGEM News this Week, the republican candidate told says that as governor, he would start by cutting government spending. "It's just unsustainable. We've been on a binge spending spree for years. And we just can't do that anymore," Ryan said. "To get our economy moving again, we have to get our budget straightened out. And that's going to take cutting spending, not raising taxes." You can watch the rest of Les Sachs' interview with Jim Ryan on WGEM News This Week which airs Sunday at 6:30 am on WGEM and 9:30 on WGEM Fox.
