ST. DONATUS, Iowa (AP) - Two men have been injured while deer hunting in Iowa.
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says 37-year-old Kevin Bourland of Hazel Green, Wis., and 40-year-old James Nelson of Burlington were hurt Sunday.
Officials say Bourland reached to catch a 20-gauge shotgun propped against a tree as it began to fall. They say the gun fired, hitting Bourland in the thumb with a deer slug. The incident happened in Jackson County near St. Donatus.
Authorities say Bourland was taken to a Dubuque hospital for treatment.
Officials say Nelson was hunting with his 14-year-old son in Des Moines County near Prairie Grove when he was struck in his upper left thigh by a deer slug fired by the boy.
Nelson was taken to a Burlington hospital for treatment.
