QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) -- Dozens of volunteers showed up this weekend to help clean up Quincy's Washington Theatre.
The group was working specifically on a couple rooms in the old theater, rooms that the theatre commission hopes to lease soon.
While progress was made, the actual theater in the building is in really bad shape, and it needs much more work than a handful of volunteers are capable of doing in one weekend.
Washington Theatre board member, Paul Denckla says, "It's going to take a lot of money and a lot of time to renovate that. Our hope is to once again make this the crown jewel of the Gem City."
The theater commission says fixing up this one property will give other downtown Quincy businesses a boost by attracting visitors from outside of the city.
