PITTSFIELD, Ill. (WGEM) -- A top of the line skate park will soon open in Pittsfield.
Volunteer crews began work last Monday and Tuesday morning they poured the last of the concrete. This project has been in the works for years, and now after numerous fundraisers, grants, and donations, it's a done deal.
The city donated space in King Park and the Union Difference volunteered its skilled workers to build the skate park. Some came from as far away as Decatur and Bloomington.
The skate park has a streetscape design, meaning it has the feel of a city street, including steps and grind rails. Even the ramps are made of concrete.
Organizers say this skate park is open to everyone throughout the area.
"As youth evolve and their interests change and grow, kids want a skate park. They're all over, in every county there's a skate park. So now we can have kids from other counties come skate our park and they can be proud of that," Patty McIntosh with the Health & Wellness Foundation of Pike County, said.
There will be a grand opening for the skate park on November 6 from 2-5 p.m. The $25,000 project included a $5,000 donation from the Tony Hawk foundation and the city of Pittsfield donated $10,000 in material costs.
