LOS ANGELES (AP) - The Chicago White Sox played a 2-game series against Detroit at U.S. Cellular Field before heading to California for the opener of a 2-game set against the Los Angeles Angels tonight (9:05 p.m.). Gavin Floyd is slated to start for the Sox. He threw 7-2-thirds scoreless innings in his last outing and has posted a 1.26 ERA over his last four starts. Jerome Williams will start for the Angels.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - The St. Louis Cardinals open a 5-game road trip in California with the first of 2 games against San Francisco tonight (9:15 p.m.). The Cards are hoping for some better results away from Busch Stadium after going 1-4 in their recent home-stand.

CHICAGO (AP) - The Philadelphia Phillies bring a 3-game winning streak into Wrigley Field to face the Chicago Cubs tonight (7:05 p.m.). The Cubs plan to hand the ball to Matt Garza, who is 2-1 this year. Phillies starter Kyle Kendrick is 0-3 so far.

CHICAGO (AP) - Soccer fans will get a chance to hang out at Wrigley Field this summer. Italy's AS Roma and Poland's Zaglebie Lubin (zahg-lehb-EE'-ay LOO'-bin) are scheduled to square off for an international "Friendly at the Confines" on July 22. The afternoon game will be played after the Ron Santo Hall of Fame induction ceremony that's planned that day for Chicago Cubs fans.
