QUINCY, IL (WGEM) -- The Quincy Salvation Army says they're expecting to help more than 1,000 families buy Christmas gifts this year.
Monday was the first day families could apply for the Salvation Army's Christmas baskets and Toy Town programs.
Within the first hour alone, volunteers helped more than 80 people apply for assistance.
Officials say if you need help but are unsure you qualify, come to the Kroc Center and talk with volunteers.
"The best thing you can do is come in. We have people who are ready, volunteers who are doing interviews with folks and they'll go through all the guidelines and tell them who qualifies and talk about your family size and they're very helpful folks, good folks who will get people signed up," said Maj. Dan Jennings with the Salvation Army.
The deadline to apply is Thursday.
You can sign up at the Kroc Center from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
