QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM)-- Martin Luther King Jr. Day may not be until Monday, but the First Baptist Church in Quincy has already started celebrating and honoring the civil rights leader.
Sunday morning, The First Baptist Church hosted Dr. Jack Thomas, President of Western Illinois University as part of their Martin Luther King junior celebration.
Dr. Thomas says even in today's day and age, there's still lesson people can learn from Dr. King's teachings to make the world a better place.
"We should all promote unity among people and we know in this economy we have various struggles, but if we all come together as a people, I think this nation would be a better place," Dr. Thomas said.
The first Baptist church will host another Dr. King celebration Monday at 10 a.m. hosted by the NAACP.
