SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) -- A Missouri state senator has introduced legislation clarifying that anyone in Missouri may kill a mountain lion.
The bill offered by Republican Sen. Bill Stouffer, of Napton, would require anyone who kills a mountain lion to report immediately to a state conservation agent and surrender the body within 24 hours.
The Springfield News-Leader reports (http://sgfnow.co/x8MBmU ) that current state statutes don't address the killing of mountain lions.
The Department of Conservation says Missouri has had 27 confirmed mountain lion sightings since 1994, mostly in southern Missouri near the Arkansas border.
