JWCC makes chemistry fun for Quincy third graders

QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) -- Chemistry was made fun Friday for a group of third graders at John Wood Community College.

The students from St. Dominic's were excited to know they could get involved in the experiments. They created gases and smells and even blew some things up.

Seeing kids having fun with chemistry this early in life is a positive thing, said JWCC Professor of Chemistry Mark Moore.

"These students are third graders so about nine years old and studies have shown that children make up their minds whether they like science or not by the fifth grade. So if we don't get them hooked now, they're lost forever," Moore said.

Moore said if other teachers are interested in coming to JWCC and getting this experience for their class, they just need to contact him.
