CANTON, Mo. (WGEM) -- Culver Stockton College celebrated its history with the Canton Christian Church Sunday morning at its annual Heritage Sunday celebration.
The service highlighted how important the two groups have been to the area for more than 150 years.
Culver-Stockton College was founded in 1853 by church members and was the first co-education college west of the Mississippi.
The school's president says the historical relationship has been a great benefit to the entire Canton community.
"Obviously we have strong membership at the church. Many of the church members are faculty members and staff members at the college. So throughout the years its been a very strong relationship," said Culver-Stockton College President Richard Valentine.
Numerous Culver-Stockton alums attended the service and the school's choir also performed.
