(WGEM) -- For three years, WGEM has provided free mobile text alerts for severe weather, school closings, breaking news and more.

But we've added some new options recently and if you haven't signed up, now is the time to sign up or double check your WGEM Mobile Text Alert settings.

To sign up, visit WGEM.com/Weather and click on the "Mobile Alerts Sign-Up" link. Enter your information and then select the counties, watches, and warnings you want delivered to your phone.

Early subscribers can go back and add severe thunderstorm and tornado watches by clicking on the "Change Preferences" link on the weather page. Enter your number, click submit and then ad the alerts you want to receive.

New subscribers will received a confirmation text from the number 28214 that you need to reply to, confirming your registration.

While you're there, you can also sign up for breaking news and school closing alerts, along with a daily forecast delivered to your phone each morning at 7 a.m.

WGEM Mobile Text Alerts are a free service, but depending on your text messaging plan and provider, some charges may apply.
