HANNIBAL, Mo. (WGEM) -- Handshakes, smiles and plenty of welcomes, the perfect way to start a new chapter for the Crossing Church.
The group has been transforming the old Orpheum Theater since November, after previously being located in Hannibal's former YMCA facility.
After nearly five months of renovations, the Crossing Church in Hannibal held its first service in its brand new home.
"It's an awesome feeling. It really is. It's the light at the end of the tunnel and people have been pulling hard for the last year to get this thing fully up and going," said Randy Drish, Hannibal Campus Pastor.
Right off the bat, the first service was a sight to see. Complete with live music, lights and plenty of singing, officials say its the end result of volunteers pulling together for the same cause.
"Just that feeling of everyone pulling in the same direction towards the goal of opening today has been awesome," Drish said.
Fixing up the Orpheum Theater was no small task. It took a team of volunteers nearly five months of cleaning and renovations to get the theater back up and running.
"We came in and swept all the debris and stuff off the floors and knocked out walls and vacuumed chairs and painted walls. It was a lot of hard work but a lot of fun working with the crew," said Volunteer Anna Martin.
Now that the church is up and running, members say they can't wait to see what else the future holds. For the time being, officials say the Hannibal location will offer only one service on Sundays but they could offer more if there's a demand for it.
