MARION, Ill. (WGEM) -- Rushville native Megan Ervin has to practice introducing herself under a new title.
Ervin, 22, of Quincy, who won the title of Miss Quincy in March, was crowned Miss Illinois Saturday at the Miss Illinois Pageant at the Marion Cultural and Civic Center. She the first Quincyian since 1948 to win Miss Illinois, when Viola Suits Palumbo, who was born Viola Hutmacher, won the Miss Illinois crown.
Ervin will now compete in January with 52 other titleholders from across the country for the title of Miss America at the 2013 Miss America Pageant at Planet Hollywood Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
Ervin was also initially awarded the preliminary award for lifestyle and fitness in swimwear Wednesday during the first night of preliminary competition.
Megan was first runner-up in the 2011 Miss Illinois pageant. She is a May graduate from Western Illinois University and a 2008 graduate of Rushville-Industry High School. She is the daughter of Jeff and Cindy Ervin of Rushville.
