QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) -- Forty-two local non-profit organizations got a big boost Tuesday from The Community Foundation of the Quincy Area.
More than $56,000 was awarded to groups who run food pantries, raise the quality of child care, bring art and music activities to local schools, help underprivileged youth, and a lot more.
The Community Foundation helps build charitable funds to support these local causes, helping thousands of people everyday.
"We are building permanent sources of funding for these to serve these organizations over the long term to make sure they are sustainable in our communities and that we always have those organizations available," said Program Coordinator Amy Meyer Lehenbauer.
Since 1999, the Community Foundation has awarded more than 1,000 grants totaling more than $1.7 million.
