KEOKUK, Ia. (WGEM) -
Keokuk police say a car stolen back in 2009 has been found at the bottom of the Mississippi River.
Keokuk Police Chief Dave Hinton says the Corps of Engineers was dredging the riverfront Wednesday near the George M. Verity River Museum when they found car parts.
A dive team was called in and found the red 2009 Chevy Aveo buried in the sediment. The Corp of Engineers brought in their crane to dig the car out of the river bottom.
Hinton says the rental car was reported stolen in September 2009 from a home just six blocks away from the riverfront.
Hinton says the car was in tact for the most part and the keys were even still in it.
Police have no suspects at this time.
