In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month the Blessing Breast Center and the Hancock County Health Department are giving qualifying women a free life saving mammogram.
There are some requirements though. Women must be between the ages of 40 and 64, must live in Adams, Brown, Hancock, Pike, or Scott counties in Illinois, and not have health insurance.
"We welcome women to make appointments. It's best if they call but if they're unable to make an appointment and they just want to stop by tomorrow, we will be accepting walk-ins also," said Lori Wilkey, the manager of the Blessing Breast Center.
If you are coming in as a walk-in you must bring proof of income with a tax return, bank statement, or check stub. You will also need to bring in proof of age.
One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer at some point in their lifetime and a mammogram is one of the best ways to catch the cancer early.
"By having that screening mammogram every year we're able to see subtle changes that a women would not be able to feel themselves. So that's the importance of mammography every single year," Wilkey said.
