Bielema not second-guessing 4th quarter QB swap

Posted:

MADISON (WKOW) -- They say hindsight is 20/20 and looking back at the Badgers' final play in their loss to Nebraska, Bret Bielema might be wishing he had gone a different route at the quarterback position.

Based on what he's seen in practice, Bielema says Danny O'Brien is Wisconsin's best quarterback in the 2-minute drill.

Based on Saturday's game, there was some serious miscommunication in that 2-minute drill that led to a turnover and cost Wisconsin the game.

Bielema said on Monday the fact that Joel Stave got hit hard on the previous drive did factor into the decision to pull him from the game, but the Badgers' coach isn't going to play the 'coulda, woulda, shoulda' game.

"As a coach, you can't re-think that way, as far as how you handled Saturday. I will point out that danny came in on 3rd down the prior series, so it wasn't like that was the first time of going in the ball game. I get it was only for one play, but Joel really got rocked on that play," Bielema said. "And as far as how we handle this Saturday, it's all about what we see this week."

On the injury front, Bielema is hopeful defensive ends Brendan Kelly and Pat Muldoon will return from injuries in time for Saturday's game against Illinois, and safety Shelton Johnson could return from a broken arm this week, too.
