Grocery Shopping at Hy-Vee Teaches Kids Basic Math Skills

Quincy Hy-Vee stores have been turned into classrooms Tuesday night...helping hundreds of elementary students learn everyday math skills.

Family Fun Math Nights include a grocery shopping scavenger hunt where kids practice adding, subtracting, and multiplying prices on grocery items.

Students from Monroe and Berrian Elementary were at the Hy-Vee on Harrison, students from Liberty were at the Hy-Vee on Broadway.

Parents say - these basic math skills - pay off in the real world too.

"We try to work on it when we're here anyway to see what's the best deal, what's more for our money because you know you need to make it stretch," says dad Chris Seals.

More events are scheduled for next week.
