Settlement reached in Mo. bullying lawsuit

Posted:

BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. (AP) -- A Missouri school district has settled a lawsuit with the parents of a 12-year-old boy who killed himself after allegedly being bullied by other students.

Financial terms of the settlement between the Blue Springs School District and the parents of Brandon Myers were not released Wednesday. Brandon hanged himself at home in February 2007.

His parents alleged their son was emotionally bullied for years at school. They also alleged the district did not protect their son or train employees to stop bullying.

As part of the settlement, the district agreed to hold an annual bullying awareness day.

The Independence Examiner reports (http://bit.ly/QuUksk ) the father of one of the alleged bullies must write a letter of apology to Brandon's parents. He was accused of encouraging and participating in the bullying.
