Apple Cider Prices Jump

Posted:
QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) -

So - you thought a gallon of gas was expensive?

What about a gallon of apple cider?

At some local places, it's as much as nine dollars per gallon! At Daylight Donuts, owner Babs Lock says they get their supply from local grower Edgewood Orchard - and she says this is higher than in past years.

She says growers have told her the price hike is because of a lower yield. Lock says that's because of a frost when the apples were still budding, and of course the lack of rainfall didn't help anything.

But Lock says - the apple cider sales are still going strong. They will continue selling the fall favorite until the supply from Edgewood Orchard runs out, and she suspects that will be in about four or five weeks - so if you want some, you might want to hurry!
