More people are choosing to ride the rails. Amtrak is reporting record numbers of passengers nationally and locally.
More than 265,000 people rode Amtrak between Quincy and Chicago last fiscal year, which ended September 30. That's 4 percent increase from 2011.
Passengers say riding the train allows them to be more productive while traveling.
"I can work and make phone calls. And instead of driving I can get something done on a more productive level. Also if you plan ahead it saves a lot of money. It's cheaper than gas these days," said Susan Spalding, an Amtrak passenger.
Overall, Amtrak says train ridership has climbed by 49 percent since 2000.
