A Canton man is currently lodged in the Lewis County Jail after allegedly crashing a stolen vehicle into the Pizza Hut in Canton.

According to Canton Police Chief Hayes Shelley, his department received a call just after 11 p.m. Tuesday night regarding a suspicious man trying to sell a large knife and jewelry to customers.

Once officers arrived, it was determined the man allegedly stole several cell phones from a vehicle in the parking lot and fled the scene. The man then allegedly stole a vehicle from a Canton residence, crashed the vehicle into the Pizza Hut building and fled the scene once again.

The police department then received a report early Wednesday morning that the stolen vehicle was seen in a wooded area behind the Westport Apartment Complex northwest of Canton.

Young is being held on a $20,000 cash bond, and additional charges are pending.
