The two candidates for the Illinois state senate met in their first debate of the campaign Thursday night.
The Adams County League of Women Voters hosted a candidates forum in Quincy, that included incumbent Democrat John Sullivan and Republican Randy Frese.
The candidates took questions from a panel, which included myself, and also written questions from the audience on topics that including the state's pension crisis, job creation and retention, and education funding.
A standing room only crowd of about 150 people was on hand.
Organizers hope they left the forum knowing where the candidates stand on the issues.
"Our goal is to educate and to provide opportunities for the people who are going to be voting, the citizens of this area, to learn what they can to inform their vote," said League of Women Voters President Mary Ann Klein.
And we invite you to tune into WGEM next Tuesday as the Senate candidates, John Sullivan and Randy Frese, meet in a televised debate.
That's October 30 at 6:30 p.m. on WGEM and you can also hear it on News Talk 105.
