Arrest made, two injured in shooting at Liberty motorcycle club

Posted: Updated:

Two men were taken to Blessing Hospital Saturday, after officials said they were shot at a motorcycle club in Liberty.

Michael Angelo Gomez, 41, of Quincy was taken into custody a few hours after police responded to the scene of the Percenters MC Motocycle Club at 5:55 a.m. Saturday.

Deputies have been called there before and, several neighbors said after today's shooting it's time for the club to go.

"We saw the cars and ambulances and my dad looked at me and said I am not sure, but I think I heard gun shots this morning," said neighbor Dalton Crawford.

Adams County Sheriff's Deputies said what Crawford likely heard were gunshots at the club. Adams County Sheriff Brent Fischer said two men, ages 34 and 55, were shot by Gomez inside the clubhouse.

"We're led to believe that a disturbance earlier this morning, that may have led to what occurred here, " said Fischer.

Fischer and his deputies were already familiar with the Percenters.

Four club members were arrested in connection with an armed motorcycle robbery in Quincy in May.

"Before that, you have never heard of anything like that happening in Liberty. You never heard of any problems like that. I mean this is two definite pretty big things," said Crawford.

Crawford, who lives across from the clubhouse, said when he heard there was a shooting he knew who was probably involved.

"I would definitely think it would be them first before anyone else in Liberty, but I never thought they would be capable of that," said Crawford.

Crawford wasn't the only neighbor upset about the shooting.

Several others were very outspoken against the club's violence, but they feared retaliation and declined on-camera interviews.
