Quincy, IL (WGEM)-- As the season change and we get cooler you may find more pests trying to get warm in your home.
Experts with Reliable Pest Solutions say the first step to protect your home is to rake leaves and other clutter from around the home. Those piles can be a breeding ground for insects and mice.
Also, seal up any gaps you might have around doors or windows. But if you start to see mouse droppings that's when you need to call in the exterminators.
"When people see mice generally what they need to do is they need to try to figure out how the mice are getting in the house. And of course, call a local expert. They're going to be able to help you get rid of the problem a lot faster than what you could, with over the counter products,"said Chris Smith, the operations manager of Reliable Pest Solutions in Quincy.
Smith says you can also try to screen in the attic and drier vents to keep the pests out. Also, seal up any gaps from one-eighth of an inch to a quarter of an inch because that can really help keep out insects and mice.
