Ewing boy injured after pitbull bites face

A 9-year-old boy from Ewing received stitches Sunday after a family member's pitbull bit him in the face.

Lewis County Sheriff David Parrish says the boy and a pitbull owned by Ewing resident Ernie Raleigh were playing at approximately 3:30 p.m. before the dog bit the boys face. Parrish added that the dog is believed to have bit the boy once, then stopped.

The boy was transported by ambulance to Blessing Hospital in Quincy and later released.

Parrish says the boy and his parents are related to Raleigh and had been living at his residence for several weeks.

No charges have been filed, but the investigation is ongoing. Parrish said that once the investigation is finished, evidence will be turned over to Lewis County Prosecutor Jules DeCoster.
