Is there a business boom in Hannibal?
The Hannibal Area Chamber of Commerce says twice as many new businesses have opened up this year compared to last year.
Businesses ranging from restaurants to paint stores have all opened this year. Hannibal Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director McKenzie Disselhorst says the city is starting to bounce back from the recession.
"I think the economy in Hannibal is really starting to pick up. Our real estate agents have said they have seen an increase in sales," Disselhorst said. "The market is really starting to pick back up as far as real estate goes. Our unemployment numbers continue to be below the state average, we have new businesses opening. All good signs in this economy."
According to the latest job report, Marion County unemployment is at 5.3 percent, while Ralls County sits at 5.6 percent.
