City of Hannibal replacing lighting fixtures during construction projects

The city of Hannibal's sidewalk construction isn't the only thing that'll be new in downtown Hannibal.

The Board of Public Works is also taking down the decorative lighting fixtures while construction is going on.

One reason is for safety, but the company also wants to refurbish the downtown lights. General Manager Robert Stevenson says the reason is to make everything in Hannibal look new.

"So we're taking them back to our shop," Stevenson said. "We're going to dismantle them, sand blast and repainted professionally, and we're probably going to renew the wiring internally to them, and we're thinking seriously of buying new globes."

Stevenson says they're working at the same pace as the sidewalk construction, so when it's completed, so are the downtown lights.
