The VFW Post 5256 dedicated a memorial in Hamilton Sunday in honor of those who are and had served for the United States.
The five foot statue was purchased 5 years ago, but the designs weren't put into place until just a couple weeks ago. Because of the weather, the dedication was moved inside as the VFW didn't just dedicate the monument but also honored those who have served.
"Each war is depicted on the stone and the QR code that our younger generation can get with our smart phones can click on those QR codes and it will bring up that war and talk about that war, and it also brings up things like Hamilton town itself," said VFW Member Perry Suter.
The stone for the monument cost $5,000, and it's located at Hamilton-Nauvoo Junction of U.S. Highway 136 and Illinois Route 96.
