Two start-up businesses have each won $10,000 prizes thanks to a contest by the Quincy Area Chamber of Commerce.
Gem City Coffee and Golden Bridges were announced Monday as the winners of $10,000 prizes to help jump start their businesses.
The contest involved submitting a business plan for a start-up business. Gem City Coffee, a coffee-roasting company, and Golden Bridges, a company that will coordinate various part of moving for seniors, will both plan to open in 2013.
Eight plans were submitted to the contest. Once judges narrowed the field down to the final two, an anonymous donor stepped forward with an additional $10,000 to award both plans.
"At both levels of the competition, our judges were impressed with the quality and creativity of the submitted business plans, judging was difficult," David Hetzler, Chamber Board President, said. "Once the judges deadlocked over the top two entries, the Chamber was authorized to disclose that an anonymous donor would come forward with an additional $10,000."
The Chamber says it plans to host another contest again in 2013.
