Greenfield Elementary School kids honor local veterans

URSA, Ill. (WGEM) -

Greenfield Elementary in Ursa was one of many Tri-State schools who honored our veterans Monday.

Students were encouraged to invite veterans they knew to personally thank them for their service.

The ceremony included a flag salute, music program and a check presentation to Great River Honor Flight.

Students and staff helped raise $350.

"We had a hat day where they could pay a dollar to wear a hat. We had some pumpkins out in October and they could put their spare change in the pumpkins. Some of the staff donated as well, so we just took a collection of what people wanted to donate," said 4th Grade Teacher Janelle Fuller.

This is the second year Ursa Elementary school has hosted the Veterans Day Assembly.
